Why You Need Rat Control
Rats multiply quickly and can cause significant damage in a short period of time. Beyond the property damage, they carry harmful bacteria and parasites that put your family at risk.
Our rat control pest control services focus on eliminating active infestations while also preventing rats from finding their way back inside.
Signs You May Need a Rat Exterminator
Are rats the problem? Here are the most common warning signs:
- Scratching or scurrying noises in the attic or walls
- Droppings around food storage, baseboards, or insulation
- Gnaw marks on wood, wires, or food packaging
- Grease marks along walls or baseboards
- Strong, musky odors in hidden areas
If you notice any of these, don’t wait. Rats can turn a minor problem into a major infestation quickly.

They are wonderful. We got Aaron for our tech. Not only was he thorough but he also gave us an indication as to what to expect. We needed someone out same day and not only was he accomadating but he was courteous too. Would definitely recommend.

I usually don't write reviews UNLESS the service is exceptional...today I experienced exceptional service with Alamo. What made it so was working with my technician Jay. He is knowledgeable, on-time, and most importantly he is personable.
Alamo should hire 50 more of him or try to clone him. 😊
I will be recommending Alamo to family and friends...I will also tell them to ask for Jay to be their tech.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of rats are common in DFW, and does it actually matter which one I have?
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension identifies two rats commonly found in Texas homes: the Norway rat, which is larger, burrows at ground level, and isn’t a strong climber, and the roof rat, which is smaller, rarely burrows, and is an excellent climber that typically nests high — in attics, soffits, or trees. It matters for treatment because where each species nests and travels changes where inspection and exclusion work needs to focus.
How do I tell rats apart from mice?
Size is the biggest tell — rat droppings run about three-quarters of an inch, noticeably larger than a mouse’s grain-of-rice-sized droppings — along with larger gnaw marks and openings, and heavier scratching or movement sounds at night. AgriLife notes one reliable field test: pull the tail back over the body — a roof rat’s tail reaches its nose, while a Norway rat’s tail falls short of its ears.
What does rat removal actually involve?
It starts with an inspection to identify activity and locate nests, followed by removal tailored to your property, along with guidance on cleaning up affected areas safely. We also offer a free rodent exclusion inspection to identify all of the entry points, and once the rats are under control, it’s a good idea to consider a rodent exclusion service to seal them up so they don’t return.
Are rats more dangerous than mice, health-wise?
The disease risks overlap significantly — the CDC lists leptospirosis, salmonellosis, tularemia, and rat-bite fever among diseases rodents can spread, with leptospirosis specifically linked to contact with infected rodent urine and rat-bite fever named for its association with rats. Given their larger size, rats also tend to produce more droppings and cause more gnawing damage per animal than mice.
Why do rats keep coming back after I’ve caught a few?
Trapping addresses the rats that are already inside, but as long as an entry point is open, more rats from the surrounding outdoor population — DFW has healthy populations of both roof rats and Norway rats — will find their way in. Because roof rats climb well and Norway rats dig well, the same gap or gouge in the foundation can keep getting used by different rats over time unless it’s sealed.
Is trapping enough, or do I need something more?
Traps can address the rats present at a given moment, but they don’t stop new ones from moving in. Pairing removal with a rodent exclusion service — sealing the specific entry points rats are using — is what actually stops the cycle rather than just resetting it.
